This helicopter Mil Mi-24P Hind F was delivered (apparently) with temporary Soviet markings from a Soviet AB in East Germany to Basepohl on November 30, 1989. Registered there in East Germany by the Nationale Volksarmee and operated by KHG-5 out of Basepohl till October 3, 1990.
Re-registered to the German Bundeswehr as 98+33 operated by the Hfs 80 from October 1990 till February 4, 1991.
Then operated by the WTD 61 from February 4, 1991, till 1992.
Re-registered in Germany by the WTD 61 to 98+33 from 1992 till February 6, 1997, as SOC and PWFU.
Preserved with the Wehrtechnische Studiensammlung (Museum) from February 6, 1997, still fitted with the fixed twin-barrel GSh-30K 30mm autocannon (with 750 rounds of ammunition) amongst numerous Soviet-era weapons systems includes wingtip 9K114 Shturm (AT-6 Spiral) anti-tank missiles, underwing rocket pods and a GUV-8700 Gun Pod fitted with 2 x GShG 7.62mm and 1 Yak-B 12.7mm rotary machine guns! A Hind Isotov TV3-117 turbine engine is also displayed next to this helicopter. This aircraft also still bears the emblem of WTD-61.
On October 1, 2012, the Wehrtechnische Studiensammlung (WTS) was transferred to the newly founded Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology, and In-Service Support (BAAINBw).
After closing at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic and carrying out construction work, the WTS reopened to the public again on June 19, 2023.
