This helicopter was re-registered in West Germany to private as D-HALD (1) from 1987 and flown from Mellinghausen to the airport of Altenrhein in Switzerland during 1988. Cancelled in West Germany by 1989.
This was then registered in Switzerland to private as HB-RXB with Mode-S Hex: 4B2F3B since August 6, 1991.
Stored and put on static display with the Fliegermuseum at Altenrhein in Switzerland, as borrowed from its private owner till September 30, 2010. It is then stored inside a hangar at Altenrhein and offered for sale in November 2010. Cancelled in CH since August 18, 2011.
Sold since November 2010 and stored with Red Bull at Salzburg in Austria. Registered in Austria to The Flying Bulls GmbH & Co KG as OE-XSY with Mode-S Hex: 44066E since May 2012.
An extensive and costly test at the Technical University of Graz rated the helicopter as being in "like new" condition. Following the engine refurbishment, the Flying Bulls performed the first ground engine runs on February 12, 2013.
The next challenge was to explore its flight characteristics, a task complicated by the fact that no pilots with the necessary experience and valid licenses for the Sycamore remained. This responsibility fell to Europe's most experienced helicopter pilot, Siegfried "Blacky" Schwarz, who faced an extraordinary challenge: before the major overhaul, he would have to teach himself how to fly the Sycamore, renowned for its unique and demanding handling qualities.
With a rotor disc diameter of 14.80 meters, the Sycamore is far from an easy helicopter to operate. Yet, who better for the task than the newly crowned world champion in freestyle helicopter flying?
It then made a 15-minute hovering test flight on July 2, 2013.
