Lynx helicopter in action: Bundeswehr maritime operation

Exercise Report – Maritime Mine Warfare and Air Assault

The video shows a combined German military exercise involving a naval mine-clearing vessel, helicopter-borne forces, and armed reconnaissance from 7 to 9 August 2026. The exercise took place at Hohe Düne during the Folkfestival of Hanse Sael in Rostock

The naval vessel seen operating during the exercise is Siegburg (M1098), an Ensdorf-class Type 352 minesweeper of the German Navy. These vessels are based on the Type 343 Hameln-class minesweepers and have been upgraded with the Troika Plus mine-countermeasure system, which uses remotely controlled mine-sweeping drones. Siegburg provides the maritime element of the exercise, demonstrating the German Navy’s capability to conduct mine-countermeasure operations with the support of unmanned systems.

Video by Follow me - HeliTech, published August 17, 2026, shows Lynx Helikopter im Einsatz: Maritime Operation der Bundeswehr

The helicopter featured in the planned fly-out is a Westland Lynx 83+02 of Marinefliegergeschwader 5 (MFG 5), 3. Fliegende Staffel, based at Nordholz. The fly-out is scheduled to take place on September 15 2026.

During the exercise, soldiers are seen conducting a fast-rope insertion from that Sea Lynx helicopter. The troops are from Fallschirmjägerregiment 31, based at Seedorf. Their participation demonstrates the rapid deployment of airborne infantry by helicopter into an operational area.

The exercise also included an armed reconnaissance H145M provided by Hubschraubergeschwader 64 (HSG 64), 4. Fliegende Staffel together with members of Kommando Spezialkräfte (KSK). This aerial element supports the exercise by providing reconnaissance and security for the forces operating in the training area.

Overall, the footage illustrates a multi-domain training scenario combining naval mine warfare, helicopter operations, airborne infantry, and armed reconnaissance. The exercise environment demonstrates the coordination required between naval and land-based forces, helicopters, and reconnaissance assets during a complex military operation.
