Rescue helicopter crashes in Sacramento
The three crew members, a pilot, a nurse, and a paramedic, sustained critical injuries in the crash. All were transported to UC Davis Medical Center for emergency treatment.Authorities said the helicopter had completed a patient transport to the hospital and was returning to its base when it experienced an "in-air emergency." Despite crashing and coming to rest in the center of the freeway, no vehicles were struck.
Video captured by a motorist traveling westbound showed the helicopter spiraling down before impacting the roadway. When first responders arrived, two crew members were found on the pavement, while one remained trapped beneath the wreckage. A fire captain and several bystanders managed to lift the helicopter enough to free the trapped individual before further injuries occurred.

REACH Air Medical Services released a statement expressing concern for its crew:
"We are in the process of determining the details of this situation, as well as the condition of the REACH crew involved, who were all taken to area hospitals. We are keeping all those impacted in our thoughts and prayers."
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reopened one eastbound lane at 59th Street late Monday to allow limited traffic flow, with all lanes reopened by early Tuesday morning.

The NTSB and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) have both launched investigations into the cause of the accident. The Sacramento County Sheriff's Office and CHP are assisting with the ongoing probe.
